Palliative care nurse practitioner Kelly Spurgeon specializes in improving the quality of life for people with serious, chronic or life-threatening illnesses. She is specially trained in managing complex medical symptoms and providing comprehensive care that addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients. A Sunset native, Spurgeon earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she later completed a master’s degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in area hospital skilled nursing rehabilitation units before serving as a nurse practitioner with community health centers and an internal medicine private practice in the region. Spurgeon joined the Our Lady of Lourdes Physician Group palliative care team in 2019. She also is a full-time nursing instructor with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette College of Nursing.
