Although Ms. Hebert examined both ears and indicated that the findings were normal, she did not review my current medication list with me during the visit. As a result, I am uncertain whether my medications were fully considered as part of the assessment.Subsequently, I learned that Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine), which I take for rheumatoid arthritis, has been associated with hearing-related adverse effects, including tinnitus and other auditory symptoms. I was referred to an ENT specialist for further evaluation, and I am not suggesting that this referral was inappropriate. However, I am concerned that the assessment may not have been sufficiently comprehensive, as there was no discussion regarding whether Plaquenil could be contributing to my symptoms or whether consultation with the prescribing provider about temporarily adjusting or discontinuing the medication might be warranted while awaiting the ENT appointment.Given the duration and nature of my symptoms, I believe a more thorough review of potential medication-related causes would have been beneficial as part of the initial evaluation.
